Trailing the Yellow Line: MacPherson

Trailing the Yellow Line: MacPherson

After exploring the great outdoors that Labrador Park (CC27) had to offer, we decided that it would be a good idea to stay indoors to avoid the nasty haze situation that is plaguing our nation. But all is not lost, we seized the opportunity to engage in one of our favourite national past time, shopping! Since it happens to be the month of the Great Singapore Sale, we got on to the Circle Line and decided to stop by MacPherson (CC10) for some cheap bargains.

Famed as a sleepy industrial estate, the once congested area has its traffic woes wiped away thanks to the addition of the Circle Line. Formerly known as Jalan Klapa, it was renamed after the first Colonial Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Ronald MacPherson. An architect by trade, he also designed and built one of our key heritage structures, St Andrew’s Cathedral.

Shopping
Home to a multitude of different warehouses, MacPherson is your one stop shopping heaven for cheap clothes and sportswear.
Boasting labels such as Dr Denim and Puma, these warehouse sales are a treasure trove of hidden gems all at wholesale prices!

In addition, you can also store up on traditional sundries from the neighbouring shops. Visit the neighbourhood provision store, Seng Leong Coffee Powder (Blk 89 Circuit Road) and get your hands on some Singapore Flavoured Coffee Beans ($10 per kg)! Be sure to check out the cream crackers biscuit which are still sold in the retro metal tins.

And if you are feeling overwhelmed by the haze situation, you can try traditional Chinese remedies by calling in at Ban San Hin Kee Chinese Medicinal Hall (Blk 78 #01-408, Circuit Road). Be amazed at the exotic TCM herbs such as dried seahorse and pearl powder!
