Photography enthusiasts were happy to see the return of the SAFRA Mobile Snap-A-Nation. In conjunction with this year’s nationwide SG50 celebrations, the main theme for this year’s event was, ‘My Colours, My Singapore! Singapore’s Passion for Fashion, Food and Fun!’
The contest was split into two categories; solo and teams of four. Families and friends who came down to support some of the contestants created a more festive and fun atmosphere. Even the weather remained sunny and beautiful throughout the day, with plenty of chances for the contestants to snap good photographs and made traveling between checkpoints easier.
Participants using their mobile phones to get the mystery theme & submit photos
Just like its 2013 edition, the event took them through the heart of downtown Singapore in an “Amazing Race” styled mobile phone photography competition. It proved to be a gratifying tour through the country’s urban transformation and development over the years, while still maintaining the Singaporean identity and culture.
There were five checkpoints to complete in total: *SCAPE, Marina Bay City Gallery, Singapore City Gallery, Bugis+ and Clarke Quay. Flag-off was at 10am at Funan DigitaLife Mall, where participants raced off to the first checkpoint at *SCAPE.
At each checkpoint, participants were given a mystery theme to interpret on the spot, using only their mobile phones to capture and submit their photos. To receive these themes, they first had to scan the QR code.
Nothing like a fun team jump shot to kick things off at *SCAPE!
The five mystery themes are: ‘Unleash! Dream It! Live It!’, ‘The Bay of the Garden City’, ‘”They Came to Singapore City Gallery to See Our City” - A Picturesque View of Singapore Through My Eyes’, ‘Eat, Shop & Party: The Way I Like It’ and ‘Past & Present - The River of Life’.
Only the most innovative photo would win the competition for each theme and category, so there was no need to rush to the final checkpoint. However, submission for each theme must be done within the stipulated time of 45 minutes at each checkpoint. This may not sound easy but it was definitely a whole lot of fun!
All smiles for team Triple B with Andy Lau, Co-Chairperson of Organising Committee
By 2.30pm, all participants have completed the five checkpoints and are headed back to Funan DigitaLife Mall for the much anticipated prize-giving ceremony. Winners were announced for each checkpoint and prizes were presented by the co-chairpersons of the organising committee, Andy Lau and Neo Qian Bao.
For the team category, the winners walked away with a $600 cash prize, a $50 Capita voucher and a prize hamper worth $650 that included Garnier Men’s products and five GP Chocolate Rain portable power banks.
For the solo category, the winners received a $150 cash prize and a $650 prize hamper that contained a Sony Xperia T3, Garnier Men’s products, a GP Chocolate Rain portable power bank and Brooks accessories.
One of the lucky teams, Triple B, won twice as their photos topped the last two checkpoints.
