May(Be) Movies for Your Viewing?

Scratching your head over what movies to catch in the upcoming weeks?

Then let our resident movie critics, Jekyll and Hyde tell you where to begin.

Star Trek Into Darkness
Release date: 16 May 2013
Cast: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Benedict Cumberbatch
Director: J.J. Abrams
The Enterprise crew is back! This time, Captain James Kirk and Spock have to stop a threat from within the Starfleet organisation. It seems that a perilous journey lies ahead to foil such a cunning enemy.

Jekyll: This is the film to catch! Fresh off the news that J.J. Abrams will be directing the next Star Wars movies, people will be able to get a taste of what to expect from this established director. He promises to balance full on action with equally compelling drama. Plus, they do have excellent Benedict Cumberbatch as the evil Khan.

Hyde: HYDE THINKS THIS MOVIE WILL BE BORING. SOME LOUD BANGS AND BOOMS EXPECTED, BUT A LOT OF TALKING! I REMEMBER IT WAS ALL LOVEY DOVEY BETWEEN CAPTAIN KIRK, SPOCK AND UHURA. AND, HYDE NO LIKE J.J. ABRAMS’ Lost. HYDE’S BRAIN HURTS!

The Great Gatsby
Release date: 16 May 2013
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton
Director: Baz Luhrmann
The Great Gatsby is based on the novel of the same name. Written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, it tells the tale of writer Nick Carraway who moves to New York from the Midwest in the 1920s’. Bit by bit, Nick get drawn into exploits of his millionaire neighbour, Jay Gatsby and his cousin, Daisy.

Jekyll: Get ready for an over the top MTV inspired version of this classic tale. Baz Luhrmann is sparing no expense for this two and a half hour epic. Already boosting a soundtrack consisting of Jay Z, Beyonce, Lana Del Rey, Jack White and The xx, this film marks the first collaboration between Luhrmann and DiCaprio since their highly successful 1996 Romeo + Juliet. Remember to bring your girl along for this musical spectacular ride!

Hyde: SINGING BAD! HYDE HATE PEOPLE SINGING! HYDE THINKS THIS SIMILAR TO Les Misérables. ONLY BANGS WILL BE FIREWORKS! MOVIE WILL BE PUNY LIKE JEKYLL. HYDE SKIPPING THIS WITH FRIENDS!

Fast & Furious 6
Release date: 23 May 2013
Cast: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster
Director: Justin Lin
Dom and gang return with smoking hot cars and babes to help Agent Hobbs bring down a dangerous rival gang.

Jekyll: I am going to be brutal honest here. Unless you are a huge gearhead or are BIG fan of the Rock’s “acting” prowess, I suggest that you skip this one. Expect a paper thin plot wrapped around a montage of twisted metal and burning rubber.

Hyde: HYDE LIKED FAST AND FURIOUS. THE ORIGINAL TEAM BACK WITH Transporter DUDE AND THE ROCK, INCREDIBLE! THIS IS A MUST WATCH! HYDE’S ADRENALIN LEVELS MAXIMUM WITH CARS WILL BE CRASHING AND LOTS OF SPECIAL EFFECTS. HYDE WILL HAVE FUN TIMES WITH FRIENDS.

The Hangover III
Release date: 30 May 2013
Cast: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, John Goodman, Justin Bartha, Sasha Barrese, Gillian Vigman and Jamie Chung
Director: Todd Phillips
The Wolfpack returns for this final installation of the Hangover films. You can bet that they will find themselves in improbable situations when they decide to go on a road trip. Hold on to your funny bone as the mischievous trio tries to worm their way out of trouble.

Jekyll: What can I say about the lovable trio. Over the course of two films, I have connected with the characters. I am a big fan of Zach Galifianakis and Bradley Cooper has got his acting chops on since Silver Lining Playbook. Throw in the Ken Jeong into that mix and director Todd Phillips will deliver comedy gold. Call the boys and catch it over a nice meal get together.

Hyde: HYDE LIKE FAT MAN. HE IS FUNNY. HYDE LAUGH VERY HARD FOR LAST TWO MOVIES. LITTLE FUNNY MAN IN CAR BOOT ALSO HYDE’S FAVOURITE! HYDE GOING WITH JEKYLL FOR MOVIE! THIS IS BUDDIES MOVIE!

About Us
Jekyll is someone who appreciates a wide array of movie genres. Whether be it a drama or chick flick, Jekyll considers a successful movie (or film, he prefers to call it) is one which the pictures and sounds gel together to form an engaging experience.

Last film watched: Trance (A good thriller action flick that tried too hard to be Memento)

Favourite film: Django Unchained (I was very impressed by several actors mainly Leonardo DiCaprio, Christopher Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson.)

Hyde, on the other hand, only enjoys action based movies. He thinks that any movie without a chase sequence or anything blowing up is boring. He is also famous for snoring loudly in romantic comedies and chick flicks.

Last film watched: Iron Man 3 (EXPLOSIONS, ME LIKEY!)

Favourite film: The Avengers (THEY TRASHED WHOLE CITY!)
