The year 2015 marks Singapore’s 50th birthday and to celebrate our Golden Jubilee, People’s Association (PA) and SAFRA have joined hands in a huge collaborative effort to organise the National Day Parade 2015 Celebrations at the Float! This monumental event, which is held over two days on Saturday, 1 Aug and Sunday, 9 Aug 2015, brings 50,000 Singaporeans to the heart of Marina Bay to be part of the celebrations.

Come Sunday, spectators at the float will be able to view the celebrations at the Padang live on four big LED screens. What makes it even more exciting is that certain segments from the Padang will actually make their way to The Float, like the mobile column and parade contingent.

Besides that, Celebrations at the Float will also feature its own line-up of rousing performances and segments that only spectators at the Float at Marina Bay can enjoy.

Here are 5 unique things at the NDP 2015 Celebrations at the Float!

1. The Float at Marina Bay

“[It] didn’t exist in 1965. This place reminds us of the progress Singapore has made in the past 5 or 10 years. So we hope to give them the confidence to look onwards with a lot of hope and optimism that Singapore will go from strength to strength over the next 50 years or more,” said COL Frederick Choo, Chairman of Engagement, Celebrations, and Mobile Column at the media feature on 25 July 2015.

2. ‘Thank You for Singapore’ – a special tribute for Mr Lee Kuan Yew

On a sombre note, SG50 also marks our nation’s first year without Singapore’s founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. As a special tribute for Mr Lee, the East Coast Choir by Kampong Chai Chee will be performing the song, ‘Thank You for Singapore’.

“This was first performed in 1991 as a tribute to then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on the occasion of his retirement,” added Chia Tze Yee, Group Director (Engagement Cluster-Lifestages) of People's Association, at the media event.
